How to Grade Your Rings and Amulet in Diablo 4
Learn how to grade Diablo 4 rings and amulets in Season 15, Soul Splinters included. Scan your jewelry instantly at Stat Verdict.
Rings and amulets are the quietest slots in your build — no flashy visuals, no weapon damage number to gawk at — but they're where the fight is actually won in Season 15. With resistances revalued, three Soul Splinter sockets in play, and the Horadric Cube saving items that used to be trash, grading your jewelry has never been more nuanced. Let's break down exactly how to read a ring or amulet and slap the right grade on it.
The Core Affixes That Actually Matter
Jewelry lives and dies on a short list of high-value affixes. Amulets get a 50% multiplier on most stats, so they're your premium slot for the biggest offensive and defensive picks. Here's what you're hunting for:
- Critical Strike Chance and Critical Strike Damage — the bread and butter of nearly every damage build. Amulets can roll both; prioritize them.
- Cooldown Reduction — huge for ability-driven builds like Sorcerer Frozen Orb loops or Necromancer Army rotations.
- Resource generation and cost reduction — Maximum Mana, Essence, Fury, and cost reduction keep your rotation running. Ring slots love these.
- Resistances — and this is where Season 15 flips the old rules.
The resistance revaluation is the single biggest change to how you grade jewelry this season. A Single Resistance affix (say, +Fire Resistance) is now worth roughly seven times an All Resistance affix on the same slot. All Resistance is no longer the auto-pick it was for years. If you're capped on one element and hurting on another — which happens constantly against the Splinters of Evil — a targeted single resistance affix is far more efficient than spreading a weak All Resistance roll across five elements you don't need.
Practically: know which element you're short on. If you're carrying the Terror Splinter (Diablo, Fire), you're leaning into Fire content and may need more Cold or Physical resistance to survive. Grade a well-placed single resistance highly; grade All Resistance as merely "fine."
How Soul Splinter Sockets Change the Math
Season 15 introduced Soul Splinters — eight new socketables that go into jewelry sockets only, up to three equipped across your rings and amulet. You upgrade them through Amalgamation in the Horadric Cube. They're powerful, and they completely change how you value a socketed piece.
The catch: every Soul Splinter carries a boon and a liability. There is no free lunch. A Splinter that hands you a big chunk of Critical Strike Damage might sap your Movement Speed, or one that boosts resource regen might increase your damage taken from a specific element. When you grade a socketed ring or amulet, you're not just grading the affixes — you're grading whether the Splinter's liability actively fights your build.
A ring with mediocre affixes but a socket hosting a build-defining Splinter can outperform a "better" ring with no socket. Conversely, a great ring with a Splinter whose liability tanks your survivability is a downgrade in disguise. Always name the liability before you commit.
Screenshot your socketed rings and amulet to see each Soul Splinter's liability spelled out next to its boon.Greater Affix Tiers and the Gate to an S-Grade
Here's the hard truth about S-grades: Greater Affixes gate them. A ring can have four perfect affix types, but if none of them are Greater Affixes (GAs), it's an A at best. Greater Affixes roll about 1.5× higher than a standard affix and carry the visible star marker — they're the difference between a good ring and an endgame ring.
How to grade by GA count:
- 2–3 Greater Affixes on the right stats — S-grade territory, assuming the GAs land on stats your build wants (Crit Damage, Cooldown, your key resistance).
- 1 Greater Affix — solid A, a keeper you can improve later.
- 0 Greater Affixes — B or below, even with correct affix types. It's a placeholder.
The key qualifier is placement. Two Greater Affixes wasted on stats your build ignores don't earn an S. A GA on Maximum Life is great for a survivability-focused Barbarian and dead weight for a glass-cannon Rogue. Match the GA to the build.
And remember — a poor base roll no longer kills an otherwise great item. The Horadric Cube's Affix Value Reroll rerolls your base affixes while protecting your Greater Affixes. An item with strong GAs and a weak base roll is recoverable, not dead. Grade the GAs as the permanent value; the base rolls are fixable.
When to Keep a Magic or Rare for the Horadric Cube
This is the mistake that costs players real upgrades: salvaging a Magic or Rare ring because it "looks bad." In Season 15, any Magic or Rare item with a Greater Affix is a crafting candidate — never salvage it.
Why? Because the Horadric Cube lets you build up from that foundation. A Rare ring with two Greater Affixes on Crit Damage and Cooldown is raw material for something excellent once you reroll the base affixes around the protected GAs. That "ugly" blue with a single star on the exact stat your build craves is worth more in the Cube than any Legendary you'd salvage it for.
The rule is simple: if you see a star, stash it. Grade these items not on what they are right now, but on their crafting ceiling. A two-GA Rare should read as a keeper even if its current verdict looks unimpressive.
Don't forget the crafting reach goes further this season. Any 850+ IP Unique can be pushed into a Mythic Unique via the Cube, Enchanting now works on Uniques and Mythics (with max-rolled adds on Mythics), and even Unique powers can be rerolled since patch 3.2.1. Your jewelry pipeline has more save points than ever — grade with the endgame in mind, not just the drop.
Quick Grading Checklist
- Count the Greater Affixes and check they're on stats your build uses — this sets your ceiling.
- Value single resistances over All Resistance, and know which element you're short on.
- If there's a Soul Splinter socket, weigh the boon against the liability for your build.
- Never salvage a Magic or Rare with a Greater Affix — it's Cube fuel.
- Remember base rolls are rerollable; GAs are the permanent value.
Jewelry grading in Season 15 comes down to reading Greater Affixes as your ceiling, treating single resistances as premium, and never letting a Soul Splinter's liability sneak past you. Get those three right and your rings and amulet will carry your build far harder than their quiet slots suggest. When you're staring at a drop and not sure if it's a keeper, let the scanner call the verdict and get back to killing demons.
