Diablo 4 Season 15 Is Live: Every Big Change Explained
Season of Hell's Legacy is live! Splinters, drop rate buffs, War Plans & more. Scan your fresh loot at Stat Verdict to grade it instantly.
It's here. Season 15 — Season of Hell's Legacy went live today with Patch 3.2.1, and it lands on a milestone worth pausing over: Diablo turned 30 this year. Thirty years since a warrior first descended into the cathedral beneath Tristram. Blizzard leaned all the way into that legacy for this season, and the result is one of the most mechanically dense drops we've seen for the Lord of Hatred expansion. Splinters of Evil, buffed loot, a completely revalued resistance system, and enough crafting changes to rewrite your endgame routine. Let's break down everything that matters.
Season of Hell's Legacy: What You're Walking Into
The 30th anniversary framing isn't just cosmetic. This season pulls the three Prime Evils — Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto — back to the center of the story, and your seasonal progression is built entirely around channeling their power. If you've been playing the Lord of Hatred expansion, you already know Mephisto looms over everything. Now Terror and Destruction join Hatred as playable, weaponizable forces.
The pace of the launch week is faster than usual because loot is flowing harder than ever (more on that below). Fresh characters on both Seasonal and Eternal realms will be tripping over Legendaries within the first hour. That's a good problem — but it means you need to grade drops quickly instead of hoarding a full stash to sort later.
Splinters of Evil: The Core Seasonal Mechanic
The headline system is Splinters of Evil. You bear a single Prime Evil Splinter at a time, and your choice reshapes your damage and playstyle:
- Splinter of Terror (Diablo) — Fire-aligned. Aggressive, burn-heavy damage.
- Splinter of Destruction (Baal) — Cold-aligned. Control and slow-focused pressure.
- Splinter of Hatred (Mephisto) — Physical-aligned. Raw, relentless output.
Each Splinter has its own reputation track, and you advance it by running War Plans — the seasonal activity chain. Because you can only carry one Splinter at a time, this is a genuine commitment, not a menu of passive buffs. Pick the one that syncs with your class and build. A Sorcerer leaning into Fireball wants Terror; a Rogue built around Physical or a Barbarian smashing with Physical scaling wants Hatred; Cold Sorc and any freeze-control setup thrives under Destruction.
Soul Splinters: New Jewelry Socketables
Layered on top are Soul Splinters — eight brand-new socketables that go into jewelry sockets only. You can equip up to three at once, and you upgrade them via Amalgamation in the Horadric Cube. Here's the catch you cannot ignore: every Soul Splinter carries both a boon and a liability. There is no free power here. One might grant a huge crit damage boost while reducing your armor; another might supercharge resource generation while raising your damage taken. Always read the liability before you slot it, and never run three without checking how the downsides stack. A build that ignores the liabilities will feel great in a screenshot and terrible in a Pit push.
Item Updates: More Loot, Smarter Resistances
Two big changes landed on the item side this patch.
First, drop rates are up. Legendary and Mythic drop rates both got a meaningful buff. Combined with the fact that all Uniques now drop at level 1 in any difficulty — and drop with 2 guaranteed affixes — you are going to be swimming in gear this week. That's the good news. The challenge is triage. When five Legendaries drop in a single Helltide, which do you keep, and which do you feed to the Blacksmith?
That's exactly why we built Stat Verdict. Screenshot each drop and scan it at statverdict.com for an instant S–D grade before you salvage. The analyzer reads your affixes, weighs your Greater Affixes, and tells you whether a piece is worth a bag slot or a crafting reagent. During a loot-flooded launch week, that saves you from the two classic mistakes: salvaging a hidden S-tier and hoarding a stash full of D-tier junk.
Second — and this is the sneaky-important one — resistances were revalued. A Single Resistance affix is now worth roughly SEVEN TIMES an All Resistance affix across equipment, Charms, and Tempering. All Resistance is no longer strictly better than a single element. If you've been auto-prioritizing "+All Resistance" for years, unlearn that reflex right now. On any slot where you can control the roll, a targeted single-element resistance — matched to whatever's killing you — is dramatically more efficient. This quietly changes what a "good" defensive piece looks like, so re-grade your existing gear with the new math in mind.
Crafting Updates: The Horadric Cube Gets Serious
The crafting bench saw the biggest structural overhaul, and it's mostly upside for anyone who hates losing a great item to one bad roll.
Affix Value Reroll protects your Greater Affixes
The Cube's Affix Value Reroll rerolls an item's base affixes while protecting your Greater Affixes. That means an item with two perfect GAs and a garbage base roll is now recoverable instead of dead. Don't trash that near-perfect chest just because one affix rolled low — reroll the base and keep the greatness. As of 3.2.1, this extends to Unique items and Unique Charms, whose powers can now be rerolled too.
Mythic upgrades retain everything
The crafted 'Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic' recipe is a clean 1:1 transfer — your affixes, Tempering, and Masterworking all carry over. The trade-off: it stamps a Crafted tag, and you may only equip one Crafted Mythic at a time. Mythics made by the Jeweler and Blacksmith carry no tag and are unlimited, so plan your Mythic economy around that single Crafted slot. Separately, any 850+ IP Unique can be crafted into a Mythic Unique via the Cube, always outputting the same gear slot.
Enchanting hits Uniques now
Enchanting finally works on Uniques and Mythic Uniques — and on Mythics, any added affix is max-rolled. That's a huge quality-of-life win for perfecting your chase items.
Two things to never do
- Never salvage a Magic or Rare with a Greater Affix. They're crafting candidates now, full stop.
- Watch the two slot traps among the nine Legacy Uniques: Nemesis Bracers occupy your GLOVES slot and Squirt's Blouse is a CHEST piece. Slot them without checking and you'll lose an item you meant to keep.
The Bottom Line
Season of Hell's Legacy is a love letter to 30 years of Diablo, and it hands you real power along with real decisions. Choose your Prime Evil Splinter deliberately, respect every Soul Splinter's liability, rethink resistances around the new single-vs-all math, and lean on the Cube's protective rerolls instead of salvaging recoverable gear. With Legendaries and Mythics pouring in this week, the players who climb fastest will be the ones who grade smart, not just fast.
Don't let an S-tier drop end up in the salvage pile. Screenshot every promising piece and scan it at statverdict.com for an instant verdict before you commit. Good hunting, and welcome to Hell's Legacy.
