Diablo 4 Soul Splinters Guide: Boons, Liabilities & Amalgamation

New Soul Splinters carry a boon AND a demonic liability. Learn all 8 and how to combine them — then scan your jewelry at Stat Verdict.

Updated October 8, 2026: an earlier version of this guide listed a specific boon and liability for each Soul Splinter. Blizzard has not published those effects, so we have removed them. Everything below is from the official Season 15 notes.

Season of Hell's Legacy added a new socketable to your jewelry, and it comes with a catch. Blizzard's own description is the whole design in one line: Soul Splinters "offer a powerful boon but also carry a liability." Here is what is confirmed about them, and what to do until the rest is.

What Soul Splinters Are

Soul Splinters are special gems for Season 15, each tied to a powerful demon or artifact. They go in jewelry sockets only — your rings and your amulet — and you can equip up to three at once. They never go in a weapon or armor.

Don't confuse them with the Splinters of Evil, the seasonal questline rewards from Diablo, Baal and Mephisto. Those are borne one at a time and never appear on an item. Soul Splinters are socketed, and there are eight.

The Eight Soul Splinters

Boon and Liability: Read Both Lines

Every Soul Splinter carries a boon and a liability. The official notes do not list what each one does, and the effect lists circulating right now disagree with each other splinter by splinter — so treat any list you see, including the one this page used to carry, as unconfirmed.

What you can rely on is your own tooltip. The liability is a real drawback that applies while the splinter is socketed, so a splinter is only an upgrade when its boon outweighs its liability for your build — not when the boon reads well on its own.

Before you socket a splinter, check the ring or amulet it is going into.

Amalgamation: Upgrading in the Horadric Cube

Soul Splinters drop as Magic, Rare, Legendary or Unique. Amalgamation in the Horadric Cube combines two splinters of the same type and the same rarity into one of the next rarity up.

That makes the rule simple: never salvage a Magic or Rare Soul Splinter. A duplicate is half of your next upgrade. It is the same instinct as this season's other Cube candidates — Magic and Rare items with Greater Affixes are worth keeping too.

The Verdict

Soul Splinters are confirmed as eight jewelry gems, up to three equipped, each with a boon and a liability, upgraded two-into-one by Amalgamation. Their individual effects are not confirmed yet, so read both lines on the splinter in your hand, weigh the drawback against your build, and keep every Magic and Rare duplicate for the Cube.
