How to Grade Any Diablo 4 Unique in 60 Seconds
Learn the fast way to grade any Diablo 4 Unique's affixes and IP. Or skip the math — scan it at statverdict.com.
You just cleared a Pandemonium Rupture, dropped a Realmwalker, and a Unique clattered onto the ground with that satisfying orange glow. Now comes the real question: is it a keeper, a Horadric Cube crafting candidate, or salvage fodder? In Season 14 — Season of Death Awakening — the Unique economy changed enough that old instincts can steer you wrong. Here's how to grade any Unique in about 60 seconds flat, and where to skip the math entirely.
Step 1: Read the 2 Guaranteed Affixes
The biggest shift in Patch 3.1.0 is that every Unique now drops with 2 guaranteed affixes on top of its innate unique power. That's a floor, not a ceiling — and it means the affix roll matters more than ever, because a bad pair drags an otherwise-great Unique down to salvage territory.
When you pick up a Unique, read those two affixes first and ask three quick questions:
- Are they build-relevant? A Doombringer with Life on Hit and Max Life is generic-good; the same weapon with two off-stats for your build is a hard pass.
- Are the values high in their range? Affixes roll within a band. A near-max Ranks to Core Skill or Critical Strike Damage is worth keeping over a low roll of the same stat.
- Do they duplicate what you already have? Two copies of Attack Speed do less for you than Attack Speed plus Cooldown Reduction.
For example, a Shroud of False Death (Spiritborn's bread-and-butter chest) with +Ranks to All Passives and Damage Reduction is a strong baseline. Swap one of those for Thorns and it's a downgrade. Nail this read and you've already done half the grading work.
Step 2: Check the IP — 850 Is the Magic Number
Item Power tells you two things now, and both are quick reads.
First, the Ancestral ceiling is 900 IP. A 900 Unique is fully maxed on its base numbers — the innate power and the affix ranges are at their strongest. If you're comparing two of the same Unique, higher IP almost always wins on raw stats.
Second — and this is the one that changes decisions — any Unique at 850+ IP is a Mythic crafting candidate. Through the Horadric Cube, you can transform any 850+ IP Unique into a Mythic Unique, and the output is always the same gear slot. That means a Unique you'd normally recycle might be worth banking if it's your best available feeder for a Mythic craft in that slot.
So your IP triage looks like this:
- Below 850 IP: Not craft-eligible. Judge it purely on whether it beats your current gear as-is.
- 850–899 IP: Mythic-eligible. Keep if it's a viable feeder or a build upgrade.
- 900 IP: Max base — your top-tier keep candidate and ideal Mythic feedstock.

Step 3: Evaluate Tempered and Enchanted Affixes
Here's where Season 14 gets genuinely exciting. Enchanting now works on Uniques and Mythic Uniques, and on Mythics the added affix is always max-rolled. Tempering applies to Uniques as well, so a single Unique can now carry its innate power, two guaranteed affixes, a tempered affix, and an enchanted affix.
When you're grading, factor in this potential, not just the current state:
- Is there an open enchant slot? On a Mythic, that's a guaranteed max-roll of whatever stat you need most — treat it as a near-guaranteed upgrade.
- Does the temper manual you need exist for this slot? A great tempered affix (say, a build-defining Overpower Damage or skill-augment temper) can turn a B-tier drop into an A.
- Are the temper durability charges intact? A Unique that's already bricked its tempers is worth less than a fresh one you can roll yourself.
The practical takeaway: a Unique with mediocre guaranteed affixes but an open enchant slot and good temper potential can outperform a "perfect roll" that's already locked in badly. Grade the finished product, not the raw drop.
Step 4: The Keep-vs-Recycle Math With Resplendent Sparks
Salvaging Uniques yields Resplendent Sparks, the currency that lets you craft your chosen Mythic Unique at the Alchemist. That makes every recycle decision a two-sided trade: keep the item, or feed the Spark economy toward the Mythic you actually want.
Run this quick cost-benefit check before you salvage:
- Is it a duplicate of something you already run? If so, and it's not a higher IP or better roll, recycle it for the Spark.
- Is it a Mythic feeder you'll realistically use? A clean 900 IP feedstock in a slot you plan to craft is worth holding, even if you can't use it right now.
- How close are you to your next targeted Mythic? If one Spark completes a game-changing craft — Tyrael's Might, Ahavarion, Harlequin Crest — that's usually a better outcome than hoarding a mediocre orange.
The rule of thumb: keep the best-in-slot and the best Mythic feeders; recycle everything else for Sparks. Duplicates, off-stat rolls, and sub-850 leftovers should flow straight into your Spark stockpile so you can build exactly the Mythic your build wants.
Do It Faster: Let Stat Verdict Grade It For You
That's the full 60-second checklist — affixes, IP tier, temper/enchant potential, and the Spark trade-off. But you don't have to run it manually every time you loot. Stat Verdict does all four steps at once. Screenshot your Unique, upload it at statverdict.com, and get an instant S–F grade with a verdict tuned to your class and build — including whether it's worth cubing into a Mythic or feeding to the Spark pile.
Summary
Grading a Season 14 Unique comes down to four fast checks: read the 2 guaranteed affixes for build fit and roll quality, confirm the IP tier (850+ for Mythic eligibility, 900 for max base), weigh the tempering and enchanting potential now that both work on Uniques, and make the keep-vs-recycle call with your Resplendent Spark goals in mind. Master those and you'll never salvage a hidden gem — or hoard a bricked orange — again.
