Season 14 Launch: Which Gear to Keep Day One

Season 14 — Season of Death Awakening — is live as of June 30, and the Lord of Hatred expansion has shaken up the loot game more than any patch in recent memory. If you're starting fresh today, the old habits will burn you: salvaging Uniques on sight, tossing "low" item power drops, and ignoring Greater Affixes early. Patch 3.1.0 rewrote the rules. Here's exactly what to keep, what to craft, and what to feed the salvage bin as you rebuild.

New IP Caps: Know What's Worth Holding

The item power ceiling has shifted, and it matters more than ever because of how Mythic crafting now works. Here are the numbers to memorize:

Why does this matter on day one? Because 850 IP is the magic threshold for Mythic crafting (more on that below). Any Unique that hits 850 or higher is no longer junk — it's a crafting candidate. When you're leveling and a Unique drops just under that line, it's still fine to use as a placeholder, but don't get attached. The pieces you want to bank in your stash are the 850+ Uniques, even ones for slots you're not currently running.

Also new this season: every Unique now drops with 2 guaranteed affixes. That means even a baseline Unique arrives with usable stats instead of dead rolls — another reason to slow down before you salvage.

Mythic Is Now a Quality, Not a Rarity — Stop Salvaging Uniques

This is the single biggest mindset shift for Season 14. In previous seasons, Mythic Uniques were their own rarity tier — rare, glittery, and something you prayed for. Now Mythic is a quality you craft, not a rarity you find.

The mechanic works through the Horadric Cube: take any Unique at 850+ IP and you can upgrade it into a Mythic Unique. The output always lands in the same gear slot as the input — so a 850+ Unique helm crafts into a Mythic helm, a ring into a ring, and so on. That makes every 850+ Unique a potential Mythic in waiting.

The practical takeaway: stop reflexively salvaging Uniques. That Unique amulet you'd normally dump for Resplendent Sparks? At 850+ IP, it's Mythic crafting fuel. Build a habit this season of stashing Uniques by slot rather than vendoring them.

It gets better. Enchanting now works on Uniques and Mythic Uniques — and on Mythics, any affix you add through enchanting is max-rolled automatically. That means a crafted Mythic isn't just powerful by default; you can re-roll a weak guaranteed affix into a perfect one. The crafting-to-perfection pipeline is real now, and it starts with hoarding the right raw Uniques.

Reduced Unique RNG: Perfect Rolls Drop More — Spot the Keepers Early

Blizzard tightened the RNG on Unique drops in 3.1.0, which means Greater Affixes and near-perfect rolls show up far more often than they used to. This is huge during the leveling grind, because the keepers you find in the first few hours can carry you deep into Torment.

Here's how to spot a real keeper fast:

Remember the Horadric Cube rule on Magic and Rare items too: Magic/Rare drops carrying Greater Affixes are crafting candidates — never salvage them. They feed tempering and aspect work that builds toward your endgame gear. When you're moving fast through Helltides, it's easy to mass-salvage and accidentally shred a GA rare. Slow down on anything flagged with a Greater Affix.

The Helltide Leveling Loop: What the Funnel Actually Rewards

The fastest rebuild path in Season 14 runs through Helltides alongside the new Pandemonium Ruptures. As you push through the world, portal tears spawn — close them and defeat the Realmwalkers for seasonal rewards layered on top of your normal Helltide farming.

Here's what the funnel actually pays out and what to prioritize:

The play is simple: run Helltides, close every Rupture you can reach, and bank anything 850+ or GA-flagged. Salvage the rest for materials. You'll hit a craftable Mythic far faster than you'd expect.

Day-One Summary

Season 14 rewards players who stop salvaging on instinct. Hold every 850+ Unique as Mythic crafting fuel, never salvage Greater-Affix Magic/Rare items, and lean on the Helltide + Pandemonium Rupture loop to funnel high-IP drops fast. With Mythic now a craftable quality and enchanting handing out max-rolled affixes, the gear you keep in the first few hours sets up your whole season.
