Mythic Crafting Is Cheaper Now: Patch 3.1.1 Guide
Patch 3.1.1 cut Mythic crafting to 4 Fragments and fixed Lair Boss drops. Scan your Uniques at StatVerdict to see which are Mythic-ready.
If you've been hoarding Pandemonium Fragments waiting for the right moment to roll a Mythic Unique, that moment just got a lot cheaper. Patch 3.1.1 trimmed the crafting recipe, patched a frustrating Lair Boss drop bug, and buffed the odds on the game's most sought-after Mythics. Here's exactly what changed in Season 14 — Season of Death Awakening — and how to make the most of it.
The Recipe Cost Dropped: 5 → 4 Pandemonium Fragments
The headline change is simple. Crafting a Mythic Unique in the Horadric Cube now costs 4 Pandemonium Fragments instead of 5. That 20% reduction sounds small until you realize how much grind each Fragment represents — and this patch also made the Fragments themselves easier to farm.
Two changes matter here:
- Corrupted Reaper — the elite that spawns when you close a Pandemonium Rupture — now drops up to two Fragments per kill instead of a flat one. Prioritize Ruptures with visible Reaper spawns and you'll bank Fragments noticeably faster.
- Glints of Hope — the objective completions inside Rupture zones — now guarantee one Fragment each. No more coming up dry after a full clear.
Put those together and a solid Pandemonium Rupture run can realistically net you a full recipe's worth of Fragments in a single sitting. If you were rationing crafts before, stop. The math is on your side now.
The 850+ IP Rule (and Why You Can't Recycle Mythics)
Before you toss anything into the Cube, understand the input requirements — because this is where players waste materials.
To craft a Mythic Unique, your base item must be a Unique at 850+ Item Power. Any Unique that clears that threshold is a valid candidate, and the output always lands in the same gear slot as the input. Feed in a ring, get a Mythic ring. Feed in a two-handed weapon, get a Mythic two-hander. Plan your slot upgrades accordingly.
The critical rule people keep missing: Mythic Uniques cannot be used as recipe input. Once an item is a Mythic, it's done — you can't fold it back into the Cube to reroll into a different Mythic. So don't burn a Mythic you already own hoping to "upgrade" it. If you want a different Mythic, you start from a fresh 850+ base Unique.
This is exactly the kind of check that's easy to get wrong at a glance in your stash. Screenshot any Unique and scan it at statverdict.com — the analyzer flags instantly whether the item clears the 850+ IP threshold and is a legitimate Mythic craft candidate, so you're not squinting at tooltips before committing four Fragments.
Lair Boss Mythic Drops Are Fixed — Farming Is Viable Again
Here's the quality-of-life fix a lot of us have been waiting for. Since 3.1.0 launched, Lair Bosses had a bug that suppressed their Mythic drop chance to near-zero, which made targeted boss farming feel pointless if a Mythic was your goal.
Patch 3.1.1 fixed it. Mythic Uniques are now a realistic loot outcome from Lair Bosses — and from open-world encounters too. That reopens a whole second lane to acquiring Mythics that doesn't depend on Fragment crafting at all.
What this means practically: you now have two parallel strategies running at once. Farm Ruptures for Fragments to craft the specific Mythic you want, while your boss and open-world clears passively feed you random Mythic drops on the side. If a boss hands you a Mythic in your class's slot, that's four Fragments you get to save for something else.
Don't over-index on crafting alone. With the drop fix in place, natural farming is back to being a legitimate path — especially if you're already running bosses for their other targeted loot.
The Iconic Mythic Buff and How to Prioritize Value
The other big number change: Iconic Mythic Uniques got a drop-chance buff. These are the chase items — the ones that anchor entire build archetypes — and they're now meaningfully more likely to appear both from drops and from the crafting output pool.
So how should this change your priorities? A few practical takeaways:
- Save your best 850+ base Uniques for the slots where an Iconic Mythic would define your build. With the buffed odds, spending Fragments on a high-value slot is a better expected return than gambling on a low-impact one.
- Remember enchanting. In Season 14, enchanting works on Uniques and Mythic Uniques — and any affix you add to a Mythic is max-rolled. That turns a decent Mythic into a build-defining one, so factor the enchant potential into which item you commit to.
- All Uniques now drop with 2 guaranteed affixes, so even your raw drops are more likely to be worth Cubing. Check the affix quality before you decide.
The value calculus really comes down to identifying which of your Uniques are worth the four-Fragment investment. That's another spot where a quick scan saves you from a bad craft — drop your candidate Uniques into StatVerdict for an instant S/A/B/C/D verdict on whether the item is worth taking to Mythic status or better left as-is.
Quick Recap
Patch 3.1.1 made Mythic crafting cheaper and more accessible across the board: the recipe dropped to 4 Pandemonium Fragments, Corrupted Reapers and Glints of Hope make those Fragments easier to farm, the Lair Boss Mythic drop bug is fixed so boss farming is viable again, and Iconic Mythics are more likely to appear so you can prioritize high-value slots with confidence. Just remember the two hard rules — you need an 850+ IP base Unique, and Mythics can't be recycled as input.
Before you spend a single Fragment, make sure the item's worth it. Screenshot your Uniques and scan them at statverdict.com to see instantly which ones are Mythic-ready. Happy crafting, and see you in the Ruptures.
